Graduation
Graduation Policy
The curriculum at Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é requires a minimum of 38 or 40 three-,
four-, or five-credit unique courses (depending on your catalogue year) and at least
120 credits for an undergraduate degree. Some majors may require additional courses/credits.
Formal commencement ceremonies are held each year in May.
Undergraduate students who have a minimum QPA of a 2.0, have completed at least 114
credits, and are no more than 2 courses (of 3 to 5 credits each) shy of completing
their degree requirements by the end of the spring semester will be able to participate
in the Commencement ceremony. Any 1 or 2 credit corequisites (such as labs) do not
count toward the number of courses. Eligibility is verified by AASC (Advising and
Support Center) the week prior to Commencement, once spring grades are submitted.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact the Academic Advising
and Support Center, Maryland Hall 138, 410-617-5050.
Graduation Clearance Process
During the summer prior to senior year, all students should verify their remaining course requirements by reviewing their degree audit on Student Planning. The degree audit lists all of the courses that the student has completed as well as additional courses needed during senior year in order to fulfill all of Loyola's requirements for May graduation. These requirements include 38 or 40 three- or four-credit unique courses (depending on your catalogue year) and 120 credits. Students should contact AASC to schedule an appointment with the administrator who will be clearing them for graduation if the student has any questions regarding remaining course requirements.
Schedule an appointment with an AASC administrator.
Honors at Graduation
To calculate a student's honors at graduation, grade point averages are truncated to three decimal spaces and are not rounded up.
The cumulative Ãå±±ÂÖ¼éGPA is used for determining Latin honors at graduation or any other University academic honors. Latin honors are calculated with grades that appear on the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼étranscript for courses completed at Loyola, through Loyola-sponsored programs, or for courses taken through the Baltimore Student Exchange Program. Full- and part-time students are eligible to receive honors at graduation.
Latin honors will be noted on the diploma and transcript.
To receive honors at graduation, students must have a cumulative grade point average as follows:
Cum Laude | Magna Cum Laude | Summa Cum Laude |
---|---|---|
3.500 | 3.700 | 3.800 |
