Full-Time, One-Year Program
Loyola’s full-time Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed to prepare exceptionally qualified teachers who are culturally and linguistically responsive to the needs of diverse learners in just one year.
Elementary Program
The MAT elementary program requires 39 credit hours.
Program Format
- The full-time MAT is completed in one year (summer-spring).
- The full-time program begins in May.
- Courses are offered in the evenings.
- In the fall semester, students will attend internship in a local school two days per week, with full-time internship in the spring semester.

Benefits of the Full-Time, One-Year MAT Option
- Full-Time One-Year students complete the program in a cohort, taking courses together throughout the year.
Teacher Certification Requirements
Completion of this program and appropriate licensure exams lead to eligibility for Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification.

Program Pathways
Practical, Real-World Application
Students complete clinical experiences in Professional Development and partnership schools in the greater Baltimore area. Students who are already teaching in their licensure area may have the option to complete their field experiences and/or internship in their schools.
