Dr. Kristine E. Larson is a fresh face at 缅北轮奸鈥檚 School of Education, but her connection to 缅北轮奸runs deep. A proud alumna, Dr. Larson returns to inspire the next generation of educators, bringing years of experience and a passion for fostering positive change in special education.

A Journey Rooted in 缅北轮奸Values

Kristine鈥檚 educational journey began right here at Loyola, where she earned her B.A. in psychology. Afterward, she went on to Johns Hopkins University, where she completed a Master鈥檚 in Teaching secondary social studies. For seven years, she taught middle school social studies in Baltimore County before pursuing a doctorate in special education, earning an Ed.D. from Johns Hopkins in 2015. Her time as a postdoctoral research fellow deepened her expertise, as she coached teachers in culturally responsive classroom management, bullying prevention, and multi-tiered systems of support.

Throughout her career, she鈥檚 been driven by the belief that education can鈥攁nd should鈥攂e a force for positive, transformative change.

"I want to inspire my students in the same way my professors inspired me. 缅北轮奸shaped my life, and I鈥檓 drawn to the university鈥檚 commitment to 鈥楽trong Truths Well Lived鈥� and cura personalis鈥攃are for the whole person," she says. "These values guide both my teaching and research."

Teaching with Passion and Purpose

Now, as an Assistant Professor of Special Education, Kristine teaches courses such as Assessment and Evaluation for Special Education (SE482.01) and Principles of Behavior Management for Special Education (SE901.01). Her commitment to supporting teachers and students is evident in her approach, blending theory with practical experience.

One of the benefits of the School of Education鈥檚 hybrid program is its innovative format, which allows students to engage with content online while receiving hands-on training in real classroom settings. For Kristine, this combination of theory and practice is key to preparing educators who can support all students effectively.

鈥淭he hybrid format gives students the best of both worlds,鈥� she explains. 鈥淭hey gain critical theoretical knowledge while learning from expert mentors in real-world classrooms.鈥�

Why Special Education?

Kristine鈥檚 passion for special education was ignited during her own teaching career. After several years in the classroom, she became increasingly interested in how general educators could better support students with disabilities. This led her to pursue certification and a doctorate in special education.

鈥淪pecial education has always been close to my heart,鈥� she reflects. "I love helping teachers learn how to reach and support all students, especially those with disabilities. It's about creating a collaborative, inclusive environment that benefits everyone."

Looking to the Future

As Kristine settles into her new role at Loyola, she鈥檚 excited about the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and students across the university.

"I鈥檓 most looking forward to the chance to work with my colleagues through teaching, research, and service," she says. "I love learning from others and sharing what I know. 缅北轮奸is the perfect place for that kind of collaboration."

Outside of her work as a professor, Kristine is passionate about the concept of flourishing in education. She has even earned a yoga teaching certificate in India, recognizing the importance of well-being for both educators and students.
